Photo to Wood Transfer Tutorial With Step By Step Photos
What you need:
-A piece of wood ( mine was a little cutting board from the parsimony store )
-A laser print copy of your photograph on copier paper, the copy should be the mirror picture of how you would like it to appear on the wood. This alone works with laser copies. It won ’ deoxythymidine monophosphate work with ink coal-black. ( Make sure this is printed on regular wallpaper, not photograph paper. )
– Mod Podge
– Gel Medium ( I used Martha Stewart ’ sulfur Gesso but Mod Podge besides makes this photo transfer medium now. You can find Gel Medium at any Michael ’ s or Joann ’ s stores… don ’ metric ton forget to bring your coupons ! )
– A sponge brush
-Scissors to cut out your photograph
-A rag to soak your photograph
-A cup or denture to pour your gelatin metier and mod podge into
-A boning joyride or plastic wag to get the air out bubbles out with
Step 1: Print out the persona you would like to transfer using a laser printer. unfortunately ink k printouts won ’ t work for this project. Most copy stores ( Kinko ’ south, Staples ) use laser printers. You may want to mirror your picture as the transfer will make your picture the rearward of how it is printed.
Step 2: Trim your image to the size that you want it to be on the wood .
Step 3: Put a level of gelatin medium on the print side of your photograph .
Step 4: Put a level of gelatin medium on the wood, then lay the newspaper photograph side down onto the wood. Use your plastic card or boning creature to remove any bubbles of mousse medium from between the newspaper and wood by smoothing the menu over the paper pushing excess to the out edges. Make indisputable all of your corners are stuck to the wood with the gel average. If it ’ s not stuck it won ’ metric ton transfer .
Step 5: Wipe away excess gelatin medium from around photograph then leave to dry for at least 4 hours .
Step 6: 4 plus hours late, once the paper has completely dried, dampen a rag with affectionate water and and lay it over top of your photograph. Leave for approximately 5 minutes .
Step 7: Once the newspaper is damp comes the fun, but time intensifier separate of this project. Stand over a sink, wet your fingers and lento start rubbing your feel over the newspaper, about using your finger like sand newspaper. The photograph copy is going to appear to split in one-half. The white depart of the paper will start to lift away and the newspaper with the ink will stick to the wood. Take this separate very, identical dense. If you go to fast the ink will lift aside from the forest and you will be left with plain patches .
*Note- having done this measure several times now I have come up with the following proficiency. I stand at the sink and lento remove the top layer of wallpaper using round motions with my fingers. I am constantly wetting my fingers and lightly rinsing the wood under the slump to wash off clumps of newspaper. once I think I have the first layer of newspaper off I set the forest down for a couple of minutes and clean up all of the newspaper bits. This will give the transfer clock time to dry. When you look at it you will credibly see that there are still places where there is a thin layer of paper left, the trope will look cloudy. Wet down your fingers and start “ sanding ” away again. When you can ’ t see any white cloudy bits anymore set aside again, clean up a morsel while it dries, pick it up again and “ backbone ” some more. I wet polish and let me project dry 5-10 times before I was done .
Step 7: Leave your stick out to dry for about an hour then look at it to see if you are meet. Grab your boning creature and rough up the edges a moment if you like. You can take a grey sharpie marker and lightly dot in areas where the transportation doesn ’ thyroxine expect quite correct. If you need to you can wet it down and “ sandpaper ” down some more if there are bits of newspaper that you missed. In my encase I decided that I would prefer if my photograph filled the stallion front man of the wood sol I wet the wood down, scraped the project off and redid it .
Step 8: When you are satisfied with the look of your transfer put a small measure of mod podge into a cup, and using a sponge brush apply a thin level of mod podge all over your photograph, including the edges. Use smooth, even strokes. Allow to dry for at least 15 minutes then repeat 2 more times .
once your mod podge has dried you have a beautiful photograph impingement firearm that will be commented on by everyone who enters your home. They besides make big gifts !
