7. Alternate result in a main campaign that you do n’t necessarily wish happened, but that you wish you could see played out in an alternate universe before returning to ours. 29. You can give any personal computer a Staff of Birdcalls. Who do you give it to ?
7. honestly ? during that one very long Tombtakers fight I remember thinking “ it would have been so badass if this was how Fjord went, like holding the trace so the others could get aside. like yes, king, have your moment. ” like I ‘m beaming he did n’t obviously but I had some evil thoughts after that .

29.You can give any personal computer a Staff of Birdcalls. Who do you give it to ?
uhhhhhhh … I think Fearne would get a lot of mileage out of this and using it to fuck with people gngkntrkjhntr
35. You can set the time and station of the future EXU series, but it can not be within 100 years of the Calamity nor Divergence. When and where do you set it ?
Look, that sounds like one hell of a initiation history. Why the fuck were they sailing from Wildemount ? Why did they trek weeks inland until they found the Sun Tree after a shipwreck ? How did they truly set themselves apart as a settlement before they could truly poke at the whitestone ? Who were the people, how honest-to-god were they, what motivated them, who died and who lived ? Were they a noteworthy family before coming here, or did they declare themselves nobles for founding the colony ? How fuckin inbred were they if they were american samoa isolated as they seem to be, if Wolfe and Melanie were cousins and being wed, Tal I know this is realistic but please im from Quebec our kin trees are family bushes i cant –

In true Mighty Nein fashion, I ’ megabyte going for the Nines of the CR Ask Game !
thus : # 9, # 19, # 29, # 39
Thank you ! !
9. location in Exandria you ’ d like to see in a possibly canonic one-shot/EXU but with non-main campaign characters ( as in Song of the Lorelei/The Darrington Brigade )
Asarius ! I actually want to see more of the Kryn dynasty and Xhorhas in cosmopolitan, and Asarius would be a good opportunity for a one scene with lots of different creatures types we have n’t seen earlier and more exploration of the social consequences of consecution .
19. You can swap one subclass ( not class ) for any one chief crusade main cast personal computer. Which character, and what ’ s their fresh subclass ?
I in truth do n’t know my subclasses at all ; I ‘m only reasonably familiar with ones I ‘ve seen in actual play shows or the minor numeral I ‘ve played myself. I ‘ll go with Imogen as a wild charming sorcerer, since the fantastic magic trick table is extremely harbor. Plus, I think it still fits the subject of “ unwanted powers ” but would change the relish and mechanics of the campaign quite a act by taking Imogen ‘s telepathy off the board. ( I think. I do n’t understand any subclasses I have n’t played. )
29. You can give any personal computer a Staff of Birdcalls. Who do you give it to ?
Beauregard, in the hopes that she could use it as a weapon. I besides think she ‘d use it 95 % of the meter to be annoying, and 5 % of the prison term for an fabulously creative solution to a problem .
39. Favorite parental design NPC ?
Marion Lavorre !

In my D & D game, the DM has a timeline. Since multiple campaigns are set in the same world, major events have set dates when stuff is supposed to kick off .
We upset the timeline .
More accurately, one of the players upset the timeline. Made a stupid option and in doing therefore, triggered a independent timeline event two years early on .
The game is set 1519 and there was a major event designed to be happen at 1521. The plan was we ’ five hundred film downtime. The players would have personal quests and some smaller earth events, but the majority of the downtime would be function of a timeskip and we ’ vitamin d beget levels for completing events, but most we ’ five hundred precisely let him know what we did for like a class .
HOWEVER, because the event got triggered early, respective events are happening at the lapp time and we ’ re going into the BBEG fight three levels lower than the DM had planned for us to be .
so. DM decided to throw the party a bone. There was this NPC. Kicked our asses some levels back. Killed a long ton of people. My character considers him evil, but he ’ randomness helping fight the big bad, so the party is working with him. DM said this NPC can “ rewrite ” our souls. Can ’ metric ton change your base class, but he ’ randomness letting us use this guy to change subclasses, multi-class, exchange out feats move around ability grade improvements. All the fun material. The idea is he ’ s letting us use this NPC to rework our characters into the build up we want to take into the final examination crusade .
Most of the party is taking the NPC up on it .
I ’ molarity by and large not .
See, we ’ re doing epic levels. At the start of the game, our DM gave us a document with what skills our classes would get beyond level 20 [ the highest horizontal surface allowed in the plot normally ]. Since day 1, I ’ ve been looking at this document a multiple times a calendar month and referenced it every time we leveled up hale crippled. so I had an theme of what I wanted my quality to be in the end game since we started. I entirely had one thing I wished I ’ vitamin d done differently .
back at beginning of the crippled, the DM gave everyone two common magic items and one uncommon magic trick item. They were rolled for on a table and random. I ’ five hundred been given a staff of bird calls, boots of assumed tracks, and a headband of intellectual. Since I besides had better movement than anyone else, I looked at the staff and boots and thought I should scout ahead … however, one fellow in the party would always rush ahead and ruin any plans at stealth … thus I used my staff of birdcalls once in the first school term and never again .
For those not familiar, the staff of bird calls has a limited number of charges. If you use it, it ’ ll recover a random number each day until it ’ s full again. Because it had limited uses, I took a joyride proficiency in flute so I could mimic bird calls with my flute if we needed to do extra signals … of naturally, we alone used the staff once, so I never used the flute at all. That tool proficiency was the merely thing I took all game that I regret and didn ’ thyroxine use .
About a month ago, my character bought cooking utensils. Have stuff in my backstory about how she ’ vitamin d serve her friends in the kitchen a batch and I ’ ve been character playing associating feeding people with showing affection since we started the game, so I wanted ‘ em. DM said it ’ d take my character 8 weeks to learn to cook .
With people changing every core aspect of their character, DM said I can forget how to play the flute and rather know how to cook. For free .
This was a big success .

Allies
A group of six music majors sit following to the garden on Thursday afternoons. There used to be seven, but that ’ s a fib for another day. If they invite you to eat with them, accept, for barely as fagot fruit tethers you to the populace of the courts, cafeteria pizza holds you to the earth of the mundane. You will hear their Names- not True, but the ones they ’ ve Chosen .
Hawk, the violinist, is beautiful. Breathtakingly elegant. sleek, shining, black and white. Her jewelry is made of silver medal and bone. Look, but do not touch .
Pelican, the clarinet, is friendly. Carrot-colored hair and band T-shirts that look familiar so far absolutely stranger. Their booming laugh at their own dirty jokes make you forget about the Elsewhere, for a while .
Robin, a percussionist, is kind. Her generosity has led her to befriend many, students and staff alike. If she likes you, she ’ ll call in a party favor .
Owl, a songwriter, is judicious. He weaves words like fabric, into stories and lyrics and poems, as charms of protective covering and assurance and fortune. If he agrees to tutor you, you can be sure to pass all your classes .
Starling, a sax, is charming. comfortable and companion, reasonably and witty and sinful ache. She speaks with displace, with air and water and wolves- in the speech that unites all residents of EU ( memes ) .
Turtledove, who plays the flute, is helpful. Always there when you need her, with sedate words or help. She ’ s a matchmaker, and a good matchless. Her advice is to be taken as gospel .
If you listen long adequate, you hear more to their voices than words. Birdcalls, rushing hoist, the music of the forest. No one knows what classes they take- but everyone ’ south sealed they take them together. One of the TAs swears she can remember them graduating, but not when, or if they left, or returned. Wren thinks they ’ re staff, groundskeepers or librarians or admins. Whoever -whatever- they are, one thing is True- if you Listen, you will Learn .

It feels eldritch to me that the Adventurer ’ s League Eberron political campaign seems to be broken magic. Characters can be up to level 6 by now, but there is literally no way to get a +1 weapon or suit of armor ( though there IS one +1 carapace ). There are only two magic weapons in the game, both coarse – an armblade ( any one-handed melee weapon, requires attunement by a warforged ) and a moon-touched sword you that costs 4,250 salvage to get ( 18 hours over 9 2-hour missions for a 4-person party ). The merely magic trick armor is a specify of mithral range mail and the common armor you could choose to create alternatively of the moon-touched sword .
Hopefully we ’ ll be able to get charming weapons before all the enemies start resisting nonmagical damage !

The Rescue
A Dragon Age / Mass Effect crossover, because that ’ s apparently what my brain wanted to work on today. ( Part 2 )
Kaidan Alenko was twenty-two years previous when he started alert to the alert of the iron window frame nearest his bed, one of several in the mage barracks of Kinloch Hold. Though less than thirty feet above the grind, it was rare for anything more than the breeze to trouble it ; once, concisely after he first moved to this room, a dame flew into the panes and he hadn ’ metric ton been able to sleep for a week .
But now something scrabbled at it. He reached for his staff, trying not to make a sound. The cords supporting his straw-stuffed mattress creaked as he sat up. Wishing for a flit moment he had his full robe on, rather of alone the linen chemise, feeling defenseless without the layers of wool. But that was pathetic. not a sew of it was enchanted. The only item he owned that had such expensive shape was the wooden staff. He carved it himself and affixed the lyrium-inscribed crystal, issued with bang-up sedateness from the elder enchanter ’ south stores a few years after his Harrowing. All mages were entitled to a staff, if entirely because they couldn ’ t do the Circle ’ mho function without one .
Kaidan held it now, pointed at the window, unable to see more than a flicker of a dark form in the night beyond its glass. Waiting .
The lock snicked. The window swing inward. He gripped the wood tightly, a spell rising on his lips—
A confront appeared. Brown and weathered, blasphemous eyes bright even in the dim torchlight from the hall, lockpicks in its mouth and a sag of red hair tied up in a scarf .
“ Mmmph ! ” it said, eyes widening at the sight of the staff .
Kaidan half-strangled himself pulling back the magic. still holding the staff out in shock absorber. More than a twelve years, and somehow he still knew her instantaneously. It shouldn ’ t be potential. They ’ vitamin d been children .
She saw his flicker of recognition, and relaxed into a smile, levering herself into the room and spitting out her tools so she could talk. “ Excellent, this is the right board. For what I paid the data should ’ ve been dependable, but you never know with knight templar types— ”
“ Nathaly ? ” A gruff rustle. not believing what he saw, and not wanting any of the other mages sleeping nearby to notice careless of whether this was very. much less the knight templar guard half-dozing beyond the doorway .
She padded into the room, enough to peer out beyond the walls of his cubby, checking to see if anyone else had noticed her arrival. Her clothes had changed. No more the coarse homespun of a herder ’ sulfur daughter ; she wore well-fitted leather armor over dye shirt and leggings, the brightness of their colors telling the expense, and carried a sword and bow on her back with all evidence of patronize practice. He stared at her back, disconcerted .
Nathaly returned, her voice low. “ Nobody ’ s heard us. Get dress. We ’ ra leaving. ”
He finally managed to lower his staff. Stammering to his feet. “ I— what— you— ”
She flashed him a broad smile, smug and about dizzy. His abdomen fluttered. “ I promised I ’ d come and get you out. Just took a little longer than I planned, is all. ”
They ’ five hundred been eight and and nine, respectively. Fetching water system in the village. She ’ five hundred attacked the templars who grabbed him, bashing her fists bloody against their armor because futility merely encouraged her. Jumping up one ’ south back after they brushed her aside and hanging onto his hair like a bur. It took both of the others to remove her, and the baker and his wife to restrain her so they could leave. He remembered it well because it was the last nice thing anyone had done for him. His own parents hadn ’ thyroxine contend ; in a village that size, the Chantry ’ s orders might a well be the parole of the Maker Himself .
And she had screamed reassurances, as the templars loaded him onto a horse and carried him off. Just sit tight, I ’ m coming .
He never believed it. And so far here she was .
Nathaly touched his shoulder, gave him a trill. “ Kaidan, we have to go. It ’ s not dependable hera. ”
not condom here. A hysteric laugh bubbled up his throat. He clamped a hand over his mouth. She couldn ’ t know the half of it. “ It ’ s not safe out there, either. They steal children, but they kill apostates. ”
Her hilltop furrowed. “ You haven ’ deoxythymidine monophosphate listen ? ”
“ Heard what ? ”
“ Some apostate in Kirkwall blew up their chantry. not the little ones down in the districts— the big one, gilded up by the high mucks. ” She took a hint. “ It ’ s all going to come apart, sooner quite than late. I ’ thousand not leaving you here to twist in the tip. ”
Kaidan ’ s knees failed him and he sat bet on on the bed, heavily adequate to make her wince at the make noise. Her hand straying to a dagger on her belt as she glanced again at the other cubbies. If that was true… if the Chantry decided mages were an active threat preferably than a bare danger… But apostates would find no recourse anywhere. There wouldn ’ triiodothyronine be an option to come back and face whatever punishment awaited. Sleeping in versatile chambers on this floor and one above it were the merely people he ’ vitamin d known for most of his liveliness, and if he did this, he ’ five hundred never see any of them again .
The indecision must have shown on his confront, because Nathaly crouched in battlefront of him, and took both his hands in hers. Her face about degree squatting on the floor, she ’ five hundred gotten so tall. “ Kaidan, I will protect you. I ’ ll take you out of Ferelden, or to Tevinter, or across the Amaranthine Ocean if I have to. If this loom is what you want, I ’ ll go, but if you want more than this… Do you trust me ? ”
He stared into her eyes. On the Circle ’ s best days, he ’ five hundred never wanted this. And in the face of all sanity, he believed her, every word, because even at eight years erstwhile Nathaly was calm the strongest person he ’ d ever known, hard adequate to keep an impossible vow across more than a ten. “ I trust you. ”
“ then let ’ s go. We don ’ t have much time. I have a boat expect, but we have to be across before the moon rises. ”
“ Right. ” He pulled his gown off its addict and over his drumhead, and then found his cloak in the proboscis. He ’ five hundred rarely needed it and it remained like newfangled, deep aristocratic wool lacking all insignia, a belittled grace. Belting on a pouch with his meager hoard of coin and throwing a handful of useful or sentimental items into a backpack, and then at last grabbed his staff, because he was damned if he was leaving his only real number department of defense behind. “ My phylactery— ”
“ A friend ’ randomness taking care of it. Owes me a favor. We ’ ll give the sign when we ’ re clear. ”
He wanted to ask how, but realized it didn ’ t matter. His mind was made up. “ I don ’ deoxythymidine monophosphate know how I ’ thousand getting down. ”
“ I ’ ve got a rope. ” Again that smile. “ All you have to do is hang on. then I ’ ll untie it up here and climb down to you. ”
The next bell had barely started to ring when she dropped thinly onto the grass beside him, and took his arm. “ Come on. It ’ s this way. ”
They stole across the open field surrounding the Circle Tower. Kaidan ’ south shoulders itched, as if he could feel a hundred knight templar eyes fixed on him through the rock walls. then distracted he found the boat with his shins and had to stop himself from cursing aloud .
It sloshed gently in the body of water. A grandiloquent, spare man reached out to help him in. “ Easy there. thus, you ’ re Kaidan, huh ? ”
“ Yes ? ” The homo talked as if he recognized him, but Kaidan never saw him before in his life .
“ We can do introductions late, ” Nathaly interrupted, grasping the dinghy by its bow and pushing off from the land. “ Garrus. ”
“ I ’ ve got it. ” He stood up straight and cupped his hands around his mouth. A sound emerged, a birdcall, nothing native to this area. So brassy that Kaidan cringed down into the gravy boat .
Her hand rubbed his back. And he was about more surprise by that humble act of thoughtless comfort than the noise. “ It ’ s fair the sign. Telling our friends we ’ re ready. ”
“ Do we wait for them, or… ? ”
She shook her heading and swing herself into the boat, boots soaked. “ They ’ re getting out another way. Our share here ’ south done. We ’ ll meet them at the rendezvous in Crestwood in three days. ” then, catching his expression, “ Don ’ deoxythymidine monophosphate worry. We ’ ra not going into the greenwich village proper. Or at least, you ’ re not and they ’ ra not. Garrus and I will go for supplies and hear the news. That ’ ll decide what we do next. ”
They settled in the boat, Garrus drawing a paddle out from beneath the seats and cutting into the surface with scantily a ripple. Tonight, Lake Calenhad was smooth as glaze, and quiet as a cemetery. Kaidan glanced at the stars. “ We ’ re not headed towards the mainland docks. ”
Nathaly nodded. “ We ’ ll take the coast on infantry and range north until we reach the Imperial Highway. From there, we ’ ll be another group of travelers. We ’ ve got clothes stashed for you on the shore. I had to guess the size, but they ’ ll do for immediately. ”
“ Quiet, ” Garrus said. For the first time, Kaidan noticed the massive compound submit under his cloak, and the way his drab brown-grey clothes melded into the night. “ Night like this, voices carry. ”
good sense prevailed, and they made the rest of the travel in hush. At some point, Nathaly reached over and took his hand. He clung to her fingers and watched the column and his life of thirteen years grow small on the horizon until the night swallowed them both .

critical ROLE —- nobelium longer accepting !
It ’ s a here and now ’ mho breadth, and Caleb can do nothing but blink. He, of all people, might know it, but that does not make him qualify —- make him feel that he can do anything for a moment other than vigil as a separate of an unknown history exposes itself, letting little guide other than the silent recognition that it is there. here, it says, here was something important .
Under the rock trees, somewhere nearby, a broken birdcall, and Frumpkin —- a blinking owl in the gather twilight —- takes a perch on Caleb ’ s shoulder, though his fountainhead turns towards Keyleth, insomniac in his own way. A pause —- somewhere ahead, a shininess in the moo luminosity as the end of Caduceus ’ staff shines, the slow meet of the party after combat coming together, a yip from Nott as Jester ’ s healing spell re-knits together a bone in her branch. ❝ Keyleth —- ❞ A pause. The Dusted Midyear Exchange 2019, Part 1
Charly Bliss
We started doing the Dusted Midyear Exchange in 2013, the like class we went to the Tumblr format, and it ’ randomness become a morsel of an institution. The concept is elementary : We view Dusted ’ sulfur famously opinionated staff of writers, asking for two favorite albums as of the center of the year. then we assign these albums to other Dusted writers, without attentiveness to background, pulsate or even preferences. It ’ s a room to find out what other people are listening to, get out of our respective ruts and explore unfamiliar genres. It is occasionally uncomfortable—a couple of these blurbs are perceptibly grouchy—but we think worthwhile. Comfort zones are meant to be stepped out of. This year, Bill Meyer, Jennifer Kelly, Ian Mathers, Isaac Olson, Andrew Forell, Peter Taber, Justin Cober-Lake, Patrick Masterson and Jonathan Shaw participated. In day one, we explore artists from the front end of the alphabet : Joshua Abrams to Fennesz .
Joshua Abrams & Natural Information Society — Mandatory Reality ( Eremite )
mandate Reality by Joshua Abrams & Natural Information Society
Who recommended it ? Bill Meyer
Did we review it ? No. But Bill has previously referred to Natural Information Society as an “ internationally acclaimed post-Saharan trance-groove jazz band. ”
Ian Mathers ’ take :
There are a number of different ways to take the claim of Mandatory Reality, but one is as a reference to just how ineluctable this doubling album feels while it ’ second unspooling. Joshua Abrams ( here largely playing the guimbri ) and the rest of the Natural Information Society ( here comprised of Lisa Alvarado, Mikel Patrick Avery, Ben Boye, Hamid Drake, Ben Lamar Gay, Nick Mazzarella, and Jason Stein ) have ditched the brake drum set, electric guitars and thus on that have made up separate of their constitution on by records to focus on largely acoustic instruments ( give or take an electric autoharp ) with a renewed sense of patience and control condition. compulsory Reality is divided into four pieces, although the opening ( and linked ) “ In Memory ’ s Prism ” and “ Finite ” take up 63 of the 81 minutes on extend here ; there, the octet sets up a series of gradual exchanges and tones that can feel high minimalist, involvingly ambient, or several other paradoxical paired qualities. That first hour and variety in particular feels like music you could leave on a loop constantly, finding out fresh things every third or one-fourth iteration for… years, possibly. The low-key groove of these offerings, the sense of patient investigation, rewards both passive appreciation and active interrogation, sol much so that it ’ s about a dishonor when “ Shadow Conductor ” takes things in a more actively Reichian management ( led by Stein ’ s freshwater bass clarinet ). The ( relatively ) brief, closing “ Agree ” sees all eight musicians take up flutes for what sounds like an attempt to transform birdcalls into drones, or vice versa. It ’ sulfur as good a means to work up from the deceptively, subtly grave capture that the rest of Mandatory Reality can indeed lay on the hearer .
ASUNA & Jan Jelinek — Signals Bulletin ( Faitiche )
Signals Bulletin by ASUNA & Jan Jelinek
Who recommended it ? Peter Taber
Did we review it ? Yes. Peter said, “ The suggestion of inquiry into sonic affair reinforces the modernist, formal sensibility hinted at by the overall album. ”
Jonathan Shaw ’ s take :
“ Relief, Pt. 1, ” the 13-plus-minute track that opens Signals Bulletin, does that thing that long, carefully textured monotone can do well : tones and notes keep emerging out of the sonic airfield, and you wonder, “ Is that a new strait, or was it there from the song ’ s beginning ? ” It keeps happening. alternatively of digitally scanning back and away in the track, it ’ south credibly more in the liveliness of things to let the mystery ride and stay in the drone ’ south moment, suspended in sound. I like that there ’ s no “ Relief, Pt. 2 ” on the record. After 20 minutes of this kind of thing, I begin to respond much in the way I do to Alejandro Iñárritu ’ s late movies. I get antsy. But there ’ s no arguing with the manner the first gear seven minutes of “ Blinking of Countless Lines ” get under your peel. Antsy-ness turns to itch, your teeth grit. then a bunch of shimmer, chiming sounds leaks into the foreground, and things get a lot prettier for the remaining seven minutes. possibly that ’ s the second separate of the “ relief. ” Perversely, I prefer the scabies .
Boy Harsher — Careful ( Nude Club )
careful by BOY HARSHER
Who recommended it ? Ian Mathers
Did we review it ? Yes. Ian Mathers wrote, “ At the right ( or wrong ) here and now it can feel arsenic threaten as the work of David Lynch, or as heartily empathic, even fatherly, as the same. ”
Peter Taber ’ s take :
careful sees the inherit timbres and arpeggio-driven rhythm of coldwave, new wave, and respective early synth-y pop music distilled into a quasi-formal apparatus that ticks mercilessly on. The almost-too-perfectly-executed production is offset by the viscerality of Jae Matthews ’ vocals. Sung-muttered in tones that variably evince desperation and resignation, Matthews ’ delivery is authentically pained enough to elevate the album above medley, but subdued enough to avoid the pitfalls of some distraught EBM. The smell of reserve lends outsize shock to humble gestures like Matthews ’ re-sampled howl on “ Fate, ” or the down synth glissando on “ LA ” that punctuates Matthews ’ lyric, “ You ’ ll hurt me either way/It ’ s a matter of your time, ” absolutely capturing the sense that, no, things are credibly not going to be okay .
Charly Bliss — Young Enough ( Barsuk )
Young Enough by Charly Bliss
Who recommended it : Justin Cober-Lake
Did we review it ? Yes, Andrew Forell wrote, “ Young Enough harvests pop tropes to express and expel trauma through the discovery and intensity of voice. ”
Jennifer Kelly ’ s take :
Charly Bliss ’ s Eva Hendricks wrote “ Chat Room ” during the Kavanaugh hearings, dredging up her own memories of intimate assault while the whole country grappled with whether women ’ s pain mattered ( spoiler : it doesn ’ t ). Like the perch of Young Enough, the cut is bouncy and buoyant musically, with phrases like “ I wan na see you naked ” ripe for taking out of context. And however there ’ s a darkness here and on the anthemic “ Young Enough, ” with its huge serrated guitar sounds, its pounding-heart percussion, its flimsy affirmation that, “ We ’ re unseasoned enough…to believe it should hurt this much. ” Like contemporaries in Hop Along and the Cherry Glazerr, Hendricks affirms the exponent of pop music without granting it magic powers to conquer suffer. The hurt and the eruditeness to live with it coincide here, as they do in young female life, both authoritative, neither cancelling the other .
Dark Blue — Victory is Rated ( 12XU )
victory Is Rated by Dark Blue
Who recommended it : Jennifer Kelly
Did we review it ? Yes, Jennifer said, “ Dark Blue rolls over you like a freight train, a mass of shady, goth-y, gut-shocked clog that takes no pains to minimize itself. ”
Isaac Olson ’ s aim :
John Sharkey III, contribute singer of Dark Blue, has a booming baritone voice and here ’ s what it does well : faux-roué fatalism, bored derision, and stagy arrogance, all unleavened by brain or temper. sure, he ’ south sarcastic, but that ’ s not the like thing. Furthermore, Sharkey ’ s timbral and emotional limitations, ( intentionally ? ) camp croon, clunky lyrics ( “ watching the planes go fly ”, “ take your clock to write a letter/that you don ’ t agree ” ), and catholic contempt can make it hard to tell the deviation between sneering and soaring, and worse, whether his across-the-board contempt includes Dark Blue ’ s attention-getting if electrostatic, aglitter goth-pop tunes and their consultation .
The best song on Victory is Rated, “ Challenge of Death ” plays it relatively straight, and “ Midnight Moon ” is squarely filthy enough for Sharkey to sound convert, but as for the rest…while your mileage may vary, I ’ ve got no function for boorishly bellowed lyrics — however sardonic — like, “ counterculture in my veins/lack of acculturation on this plane .. but who am I to be the judge/of the dim and lonely slugs on vacation ? ”. Yes, the joke is vitamin a much on the narrator as anyone ; yes, righteous seriousness can be oppressive ; yes, we need morbid, caustic ironists, but brassy sarcasm does no favors to leaden tempo and a part that ironizes itself. Or possibly I ’ molarity just allergic to vibrato-heavy cynicism .
Drahla — Useless Coordinates ( Captured Tracks )
useless Coordinates by Drahla
Who recommended it ? Andrew Forell
Did we review it ? Yes. Andrew said, “ For all the echoes and ghosts of post-punk past, Drahla sound precisely like themselves. ”
Jonathan Shaw ’ s take :
Is this Leeds, in the West Riding, or the Lower East Side, c. 1982 ? One could be forgiven for being confused, listening to this precipitously angled commemorate by Drahla. The Yorkshire band ’ s obligation to No Wave ’ s feral skronk and Sonic Youth ’ south posed disagreement is immediately apparent on album opener “ Gilded Cloud ” ( great title, that ) and intensifies the longer you listen. then do the album ’ mho considerable sonic charms. Most of the songs are fairly brief, and they rise like a second-degree burn blister that you can ’ metric ton stop intrude. The exception is “ React_Revolt, ” which comes in on a sax-driven furrow primed for a torchy exercise à la Richard Hell ; but midway through, the sung switch gears and snaps into an anxious contest between Luciel Brown ’ s brilliantly chiming guitar chords and her understated, sung-spoken vocals. I like the short songs best : “ Serenity ” and “ Primitive Rhythm ” are tightly strung, whirring, clicking machines that evoke the most rock-oriented stuff made by Mars. Art bum !
Fennesz — Agora ( Editions Mego )
youtube
Who recommended it ? Andrew Forell
Did we review it ? Yes. Andrew Forell wrote, “ Agora is another deeply exploration of the boundaries of experimental guitar atmosphere in which to lose oneself. ”
Bill Meyer ’ s take :
Agoraphobia is a fear of open spaces, and Agora was recorded in a bedroom studio. But christian Fennesz didn ’ triiodothyronine criminal record there out of fear ; rather, he ’ d lost a better-appointed workplace and temporarily found himself working like he did much earlier in his career. Having followed Fennesz for over twenty years, I would have been quite happy to hear him revisit his old habit of burying melodies deep within clouds of noise. No such luck ; Agora sustains Fennesz ’ s post-Endless Summer rehearse of wrapping the noise around the melodies. Which isn ’ thymine indeed bad, since he has pretty effective taste in noises and a complicate instinct for deploying them precisely right. He uses big sounds to amplify bare tunes, which in turn evoke huge spaces. however, I miss the days when his sounds didn ’ thymine equitable articulate the space, but immersed you in it .

} } OC talk
I got a crazy hair’s-breadth and wanted to talk about an OC I have for FFXV that I ’ ll ( likely ) never get the gamble to explore but am very much gallant of however .
Whether through intentional withhold of information or ( more probable ) miss of time, Squeenix left a batch of information about Messengers fair … wholly up in the breeze and open. We see four confirmed Messengers in-game ( Gentiana, Pryna, Umbra, and Carbuncle ), but the Cosmogony claims that there are twenty-four in entire. That ’ s an nasty lot of semi-Astral beings to just wander around, so my own personal headcanon is that several of these Messengers must be dedicated to specific gods. It can be argued that Gentiana works in service to Shiva, disregarding the times when she is Shiva as it ’ second however ill-defined whether they ’ rhenium two break beings or one disguised as another. carbuncle, due to his sexual intercourse to the line of Lucis, may work more closely with Bahamut than the other Astrals. ( And please do understand this is all speculate on my contribution, with a little help from the fandom in some cases. )
I ’ ve always liked the mind that the summons from previous games still exist in Eos, even if we don ’ metric ton get the opportunity to see them. It ’ sulfur implied ( slightly ) that Ixion hush exists and may be in service to Ramuh, as it appears at the drumhead of Ramuh ’ randomness staff when he calls lightning in struggle .
And with that, let ’ s get into Revyscere …
General
Revyscere ( rey-vii-say-ray, with emphasis on the seven ) messenger to the gods Ifrit and Leviathan Revyscere ’ second shape is chiefly based off the Zu in FFXV, save for a few key differences :
rather than clawed feet, Revyscere has two fully-functioning android hands that can grasp, apparent motion, and perform fiddly job typical of any creature with an opposable flick .
Revyscere ’ s skull more closely resembles an enteledont ’ s than a zu ’ sulfur and has the teeth to match ( as opposed to the zu ’ randomness apparently vestigial “ teeth ” ) .
Revyscere has three android breasts akin to the harpy Celaeno from The last Unicorn. I admit that I ’ ve based quite a bite of Revyscere on that character as her appearance and mannerisms were very striking to me and remain therefore to this day .
Their calls sound much closer to a charwoman screaming than any identifiable speech/birdcall. Because of this, Revyscere requires a familiar when they choose to speak to humans. A conversant is a human that is offered up for Revyscere ’ south purposes to serve as a mouthpiece for the Messenger. ( This will be explained late. )
Revyscere ’ sulfur feather varies depending upon how old they are. They begin very bright and colored, matching a bellow bonfire and the “ traditional ” idea of a phoenix. As they age/deteriorate, their colors calm to ash/cinder/coal greys and blacks .
Revyscere refers to themself in imperial plurals ( we/us/our ). They besides drift towards feminine descriptors ( such as calling themself Mother-Phoenix ) .
Purpose
Revyscere, despite being a “ Messenger ”, actually deals more heavily with Astrals than they do with humans. Astrals die. They have incredibly long lifespans, but they do die natural deaths ( and unnatural ones as witness in-game ). Revyscere ’ mho purpose is to facilitate the Astrals ’ metempsychosis when their time comes, an carry through they carry out by eating the Astral ’ randomness cadaver, absorbing its energy, and then laying an egg that will hatch into a bracing, younger Astral .
Yeah, it ’ mho pretty ghastly. such is life and its endless cycle. How much Revyscere devours translates to how “ developed ” the new Astral will be/how far along in their life they ’ ll hatch. For model, Revyscere would not have to take much from Ramuh in order for him to hatch as an “ pornographic ”. If they can merely swallow a little assemble ( say ….. a single stainless horn from the steer of Ifrit ….. ), the Astral will be reborn basically as a child, fresh and innocent. Revyscere serves all the gods in this direction, but they are particularly tied to Ifrit and Leviathan ( ” craftsmen to the cradle of all life ”, and this again dives hasty into a short ton of headcanon I have concerning the Astrals themselves … but that ’ s a different essay ). Revyscere can not die by normal means or through price to their body. rather they carry within them the one true Phoenix testis, which can entirely be hatched by Ifrit ’ s own fire. It ’ s only through Ifrit ’ mho flame that the old Revyscere can die and the raw one can hatch to carry on the life/death/rebirth cycle .
Familiars
As I stated before, Revyscere can not speak. All communication with world is carried out through familiars, humans that have been offered up ( basically as sacrifice ) to Revyscere. Since they are close tied to Ifrit, the Messenger was regarded similarly to an Astral in Solheim. It was considered an honor to offer oneself up to serve as their familiar, with large ceremonies held to usher the person into their newfangled life and purpose. Humans are reborn in the lapp manner as Astrals : Revyscere devours them, lays an egg, and ( after a length of time to gestate ) their familiar hatches into Revyscere ’ s service. This basically “ kills ” the person they once were, as they become a vehicle for the Messenger ’ south voice and will, devoid of their former personality and cognition of their homo life .
If adequate time is not given for the familiar to gestate, they will emerge “ incomplete ”. “ Incomplete ” familiars serve as mouthpieces but retain their homo memories and personalities, and Revyscere will probable abandon them. ( similarly Astrals not given enough fourth dimension to gestate will emerge younger than intended, but Revyscere guards the Astrals ’ eggs with far more care and doggedness than familiars ’. )
In general Revyscere has very small attentiveness for world outside of what the Astrals require from it. Though they are not actively hostile to humans, they very a lot consider world beneath them ( an attitude shared with Leviathan ) and regard their duty to the Astrals as far more important than any human life. Because of this, Revyscere was sealed away by the Oracle ( much like the Menace Beneath quests ) and Bahamut soon after Ifrit died out of fear they would attempt to revive the dead Astral and the war would start up once again. It international relations and security network ’ triiodothyronine until the dawn returns and the Oracles ’ magic has ultimately run its run that Revyscere breaks free to fly the skies once more, searching out what it can find of Ifrit so that symmetry may be restored among the Hexatheon .

Weavers ’ shuttles, birdcalls, buzzing bees, and the breeze : these are the sounds that architect Bijoy Jain says a visitor can hear in the protect court of the Ganga Maki Textile Studio. Located in a grove of mangoes in the foothills of the Himalayas, in Bhogpur, India, the studio and factory are composed of a series of four l-shaped volumes arranged in a horseshoe model around the courtyard—the affection of the project—where a body of water trough is positioned to reflect a full moon. adjacent buildings contain dining facilities and residences for staff and guests, a gallery and store, and a cow barn.
